Algodoal Island

I have a plan for the future. I want to return to Algodoal Island.
The name of this place is “Maiandeua Isle” but the outsiders to know by “Algodoal Island”. “Algodoal” is a small fishing village located in the Amazon Atlantic in northeastern region of Pará - Brazil, on Maiandeua Isle, about 180 kilometers of Belém. The name “Maiandeua” comes from the “Tupi” language and means “Mother Earth”.
The Island is called “Algodoal” for the abundance of a native plant known as Cotton Silk, still found in the region. The Island is marked by tranquility, by the beautiful scenery that attracts tourists from around the world that never disappoints with its bucolic and wonderful nature.

There are other villages in the Maiandeua Isle besides “Algodoal”. They are “Camboinha”, “Fortalezinha” and “Mocooca”. Algodoal is the main village for being the largest with good accommodations and infrastructure for visitors.
The community of the Island is composed of receptive people who live mostly from fishing, agriculture and lately from the tourism.

Algodoal has a rich biodiversity. We have tours like “Princess Beach”, “Princess Lake” and “Watertank”. We can find some mangroves with shrimp, oyster, crab, jellyfish and others. The most commom species of birds are herons, ducks, parrots and so on. The animals are sloths, coatis, foxes, alligators, turtles etc. We also find typical fruit like “Cashew” and “Ajiru” there.

We can make several activities in the Island such as tours, fishery, surf, trails and nightlife. The transportation are bicycles, boats (motor or rowing) and horse-drawn carts. Land motor vehicles can not enter the Island. The Electric Energy was only introduced in the Island in January 2005, and the water is made through the Artesian Wells which provide an excellent quality of water. Algodoal purifies our soul. I need to return there to take a rest and purify my soul.
